Key Features of the PCP
- The PCP fosters mother–to–mother support – a core component of any multi-faceted breastfeeding strategy, and is effective as a stand-alone intervention.
- The PCP provides the framework for sustainable peer support programmes in line with Ministry of Health and District Health Board goals, cost effectively and
- The PCP is a recognised way of fulfilling Step 10 of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.
- The PCP aligns with the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, the Innocenti Declaration (2005) and the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding (WHO/UNICEF, 2003).
- PCP Administrators are fully trained and licenced by LLLNZ and have access to ongoing support, education and resources.
- Funders play a key role in the success of the PCP by ensuring all three stages of the programme are fully resourced.
- The PCP draws on the accumulated knowledge and experience of La Leche League - leaders in breastfeeding peer support around the world for 50 years.
